Chapel of the Mother of God. A guardian of the Order of Preachers, the Ossoliński foundation

The chapel was founded in 1624 by Katarzyna Ossolińska. Originally, it was supposed to be a rosary chapel. Because next to the nave there was already a picture of Our Lady of the Rosary, in the second half. In the 18th century, a painting of St. Jack and the chapel changed the call (named St. Jack). In 1951, the painting of Saint. Jack was moved to the altar by the pillar (on the right side of the nave), and in the chapel was placed the image of the Mother of God’s Protection, which was previously in the altar in the Szaniawski chapel. The chapel changed the call again. According to recent reviews – probably the picture comes from the workshop of T. Dolabelli.

This chapel has a vestibule. It is a remnant of the Gothic chapel of the Holy Cross. The later part of the chapel was built on a square plan. It is decorated with corner pilasters (with horse heads in capitals), straight arches supported on hungary, beams with leaf ornaments. Architecturally, the cuboid of the chapel passes into a dome with a tambour. On the tambour, stucco-winged angels and shield wreaths of lancet-shaped leaves with batten were placed. The windows have been mounted in stucco frames of a fitting nature. The oval dome of the chapel was decorated with a grid of stucco ribs in the Renaissance type of Lublin. The lantern on the dome looks quite rich. The windows of the lighthouse are separated by pilasterboards supported by volute brackets. Above the windows there is decorative beams and the dome of the lighthouse is decorated with stucco rosettes. We do not know the stucco contractor.
